Springwater Church is also known as Peppard Congregational Church.
The Church was founded in 1795 under the name of Providence Chapel as a safe place and place of refuge from the polarization, violence and conflict that affected the area at that time. The church community quickly became involved in running education initiatives for children in the local community who could not access schooling.
Springwater was an independent chapel until we became part of the Congregational Federation in the 1980’s as Peppard Congregational Church. In 2010 the community decided to rename itself as Springwater, reflecting the old spring and well in Spring Wood, that has the inscription:
‘Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst’.John 4 v 13-14
The alternative name Peppard Congregational Church, or Peppard Congregational Church (Springwater) is used in many official documents.
